ರಾಮಾಯಣ ಹಕ್ಕಿನೋಟ-೨೦

ಹಿಮಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಘೋರ ತಪಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡಿ ಶಿವನನ್ನು ಒಲಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರು ಆತನಿಂದ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅಸ್ತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುಗ್ರಹಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು.ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ವಸಿಷ್ಠರ ಆಶ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದು ತಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಅಸ್ತ್ರಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ದಾಳಿ ಮಾಡಿ ವಸಿಷ್ಠಾಶ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಮುಹೂರ್ತ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲೇ ಬಂಜರು ಭೂಮಿಯಂತಾಗಿಸಿದರು.ಎಂದೂ ಸಹನೆ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳದ ವಸಿಷ್ಠರು ಅಂದು ಕೋಪೋದ್ರಿಕ್ತರಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮದಂಡದ ಮೂಲಕ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರನ್ನೂ ಅವರ ಅಸ್ತ್ರಗಳನ್ನೂ ನಿಸ್ತೇಜರನ್ನಾಗಿಸಿದರು.ಬ್ರಹ್ಮರ್ಷಿಯ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮದಂಡದ ಎದುರು ನನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಅಸ್ತ್ರಗಳು ಸೋತು ಹೋದವೇ? ಎಂದು ನೊಂದು-

"ಧಿಗ್ಬಲಂ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ ಬಲಂ

ಬ್ರಹ್ಮತೇಜೋಬಲಂ ಬಲಮ್|"

ಕ್ಷಾತ್ರ ಬಲಕ್ಕೆ ಧಿಕ್ಕಾರವಿರಲಿ

ಬ್ರಹ್ಮತೇಜಸ್ಸಿನ ಬಲವೇ ಬಲ!

ಎಂಬ ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಮನಗಂಡು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ತೇಜಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ಘೋರ ತಪಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ತೆರಳಿದರು

.

ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಮದ ಅಡಗಿತು.ಸಾವಿರಾರು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ತಪಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಿಗಡಿಗೆ ವಿಘ್ನ ಗಳು ಬಂದವು.ಇವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ-

 .ವಸಿಷ್ಠರ ಶಿಷ್ಯ ತ್ರಿಶಂಕುವಿಗೆ ಸಶರೀರ  ಸ್ವರ್ಗಾರೋಹಣ ಮಾಡಿಸಲು ಯತ್ನಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ತ್ರಿಶಂಕು ಸ್ವರ್ಗ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾಗುವಾಗ ತಪೋಬಲ ನಷ್ಟವಾಗಿದ್ದು

.ಮೇನಕೆಗೆ ಮನಸೋತು ಸಂಸಾರ ಹೂಡಿ ತಪೋಭಂಗವಾದದ್ದು

.ರಂಭೆಯು ಇವರು ತಪಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಕೆಡಿಸಲು ಬಂದಾಗ ಶಾಪ ನೀಡಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ತಪೋಬಲ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು..ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ನಡೆದು ಹೋದವು.

ಇವುಗಳೆಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂಬರೀಶನ ಯಜ್ಞಪಶುವಾಗಲಿದ್ದ ತನ್ನ ಸೋದರಳಿಯ ಶುನ:ಶೇಪನನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿದ ಮಹಾಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ಮಾಡಿದರು.ಆದರೆ ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಪವನ್ನು ಗೆಲ್ಲಲಾರದೆ ತನ್ನ ಆದೇಶವನ್ನು ಧಿಕ್ಕರಿಸಿದ ತನ್ನ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನೇ ಶಪಿಸಿದ ಘಟನೆಯೂ ನಡೆಯಿತು.

ಕೊನೆಗೆ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರು ತಮ್ಮ ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯಗಳಾಗಿ ಉಳಿದ ಕಾಮ ಕ್ರೋಧಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ತ್ಯಜಿಸಿ ಬಹುಕಾಲ ತಪಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡಿ ದೇವತೆಗಳನ್ನು ದೇವರ್ಷಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನನ್ನು ಮೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿದರು.ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನು ದೇವತೆಗಳೊಡಗೂಡಿ ಬಂದು ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರಿಗೆ-ಬ್ರಹ್ಮರ್ಷೇ,ನೀನು ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದಿರುವೆ.ದೀರ್ಘಾಯುಷ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ಪಡೆದಿರುವೆ.ನಿನ್ನ ಸ್ವಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಬಹುದು- ಎಂದನು.ಆಗ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರು ಈ ಮಾತು ವಸಿಷ್ಠರ ಬಾಯಿಯಿಂದಲೂ ಬಂದು ಅವರೂ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತಾಲಿ ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿದರು.ದೇವತೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿದ ಮಹರ್ಷಿ ವಸಿಷ್ಠರು ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಅವರನ್ನು ಗೌರವದಿಂದ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮರ್ಷಿ ಎಂದು ಕರೆದರು.ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರು ಹೀಗೆ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮರ್ಷಿಗಳಾದರೆಂದು ಶತಾನಂದನು ರಾಮಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣರಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದನು.

ಬಳಿಕ ಜನಕನು ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರನ್ನು ರಾಮ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣರನ್ನು ಸತ್ಕರಿಸಿದನು.

Vishwamitra performed an arduous penance in the Himalayas which pleased the Lord Shiva. After being bestowed with all the artillery of the world by lord Shiva he marched towards the hermitage of Vasishta Maharshi again. He attacked the hermitage by using the power of his artillery and annihilated everything which made the humble Vasishta furious who never used to lose his temper. Vasishta Maharshi was so angry that he made Vishwamitra and his artillery feeble and lose their power with the power of his ' Brahma Dhanda'.

Vishwamitra was defeated again and mourned for his repeated failure. Out of sorrow he cited a following shloka,

"Dhigbalam Kshatriya balam,

Brahmatejobalam Balam !"

which means, he expressed his opposition to Kshatriya force and praised the force of Brahma. By realizing the superiority of the force of Brahma, he left for the Himalayas to perform an arduous penance to acquire the power of Brahma. 

By this time ,the pride and arrogance of Vishwamitra was broken down completely. He had to face so many obstacles when he was performing penance. 

• His penance was disturbed during the time when he decided to create heaven for Trishanku to ascend him to the heaven(when he was not allowed to enter the heaven)who was the pupil of Vasishta Maharshi .

• Vishwamitra was distracted by the beauty of Menaka and his decision of leading life with her disturbed his penance.

• He lost his power to engross himself in the penance again when he cursed Rambha who approached Vishwamitra to distract him from the penance. 

Amidst of all these hurdles, he had also saved his nephew Shunaha Shepa from being the sacrificial cow of Ambareesha. He had also gone through the situation where he failed to control his anger and cursed his own daughter who disrespected his command. 

At last Vishwamitra abandoned qualities of anger,lust and other wordly pleasures which had become his weakness and performed penance for many years. As a result of his arduous penance of many years, the Lord Brahma, Gods and sages appeared before him who were pleased by his dedication. The lord Brahma called Vishwamitra as Vishwamitra Brahmashree and declared that Vishwamitra had acquired Brahmanya along with a long life and told him to go back to his state. But Vishwamitra was praying Gods to hear the same words by Vasishta Maharshi. The Gods requested Vasishta to fulfill the wish of Vishwamitra. As per the wish of Vishwamitra and the gods Vasishta Maharshi came to Vishwamitra and called him Brahmashree with all respect. In this way the story of Vishwamitra becoming Brahmashree Vishwamitra was narrated by Shathananda to Rama and Lakshmana. 

Later Janakaraja treated Vishwamitra, Rama and Lakshmana with honor and offered hospitality.
