 ಇಕ್ಕಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ! 

ಅಷ್ಟೇ, ಒಂದೇ ಕ್ಷಣ! ಕರ್ತವ್ಯಶೀಲ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನು

 " ಏಕಸ್ಯ ಮರಣಂ ಮೇsಸ್ತು ಮಾ ಭೂತ್ಸರ್ವವಿನಾಶನಮ್"

ನಾನೊಬ್ಬ ಸತ್ತರೂ ಚಿಂತೆಯಿಲ್ಲ, ಸರ್ವವೂ ವಿನಾಶವಾಗುವುದು ಬೇಡ! ಎಂದು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿ ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನಿಗೆ ದುರ್ವಾಸರು ಬಂದ ಸುದ್ದಿಯನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ.

ಕೂಡಲೇ ಕಾಲಪುರುಷನನ್ನು ಬೀಳ್ಕೊಂಡ ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನು ದುರ್ವಾಸರನ್ನು ಎದುರುಗೊಂಡು- ಮಹಾಮುನಿಯೇ,ನನ್ನಿಂದೇನಾಗಬೇಕು? ದಯಮಾಡಿ ಹೇಳಿ- ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿದನು.

ದುರ್ವಾಸರು- ಶ್ರೀರಾಮ,ನಾನು ವ್ರತದ ನಿಮಿತ್ತವಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಸಾವಿರ ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಉಪವಾಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ.ಅದು ಇಂದಿಗೆ ಮುಗಿಯಿತು.ಆದುದರಿಂದ ನಿನ್ನ ಅರಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ಭೋಜನವು ಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆಯೋ ಅದನ್ನುಣ್ಣಲು ಬಯಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ- ಎಂದರು. ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನು ಆದರದಿಂದ ದುರ್ವಾಸರಿಗೆ ಉಣಬಡಿಸಿದನು.ಅದನ್ನುಂಡು ತೃಪ್ತರಾದ ದುರ್ವಾಸರು ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನನ್ನು ಹರಸಿ ತನ್ನ ಆಶ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ತೆರಳಿದರು. 

ಈಗ ರಾಮನಿಗೆ ಇಕ್ಕಟ್ಟು!ಕಾಲಪುರುಷನಿಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟ ಮಾತಿನ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನನ್ನು  ವಧಿಸಬೇಕು.ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನಿಲ್ಲದೆ ತಾನಿರುವುದೆಂತು?ಹೀಗೆ  ಪರಿತಾಪ ಪಡತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದಾಗ ಸಂತೋಷದಿಂದ ಪ್ರಾಜ್ಞ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ ಬಂದನು.

ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನಲ್ಲಿ-

ಅಣ್ಣಾ, ನನ್ನ ಸಲುವಾಗಿ ದುಃಖಿಸಬೇಡ.ಪೂರ್ವ ಜನ್ಮದ ಕರ್ಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಬದ್ಧರಾದ ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಕಾಲಗತಿಯೂ ಇಂತಹುದೇ ಆಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಯಾವುದೇ ಭಯವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಸಂಹರಿಸಿ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾಬದ್ಧನಾಗು.ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ನರಕ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ನಿನಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿದ್ದರೆ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಸಂಹರಿಸಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟ ಮಾತನ್ನುಳಿಸಿ ಧರ್ಮಪರನಾಗು- ಎಂದನು. 

ದುಃಖಿತ ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನು ಒಡನೆಯೇ ಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳನ್ನು, ವಸಿಷ್ಠರೇ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಪುರೋಹಿತರನ್ನು ಕರೆಸಿದನು.ಅವರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ನಡೆದ ಘಟನೆಗಳನ್ನು ವಿವರವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿದನು.ತಾನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾದ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದನು.ಆಗ ವಸಿಷ್ಠರು- ಇದು ನನಗೆ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿತ. ಕಾಲವನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಲು ಯಾರಿಂದಲೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದುದರಿಂದ ನೀನು ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನನ್ನು ತ್ಯಜಿಸುವುದು ಉಚಿತವೇ ಆಗಿದೆ.ಧರ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಎಂದೂ ಚ್ಯುತಿ ಬರಬಾರದು- ಎಂದು ಸಲಹೆಯಿತ್ತರು.

ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನು ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನಲ್ಲಿ- ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ! ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ತ್ಯಾಗಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ.ಧರ್ಮ ಲೋಪವೆಂದೂ ಆಗಬಾರದು. ಸತ್ಪುರುಷರಿಗೆ ತ್ಯಾಗಮಾಡುವುದೂ ವಧೆ ಮಾಡುವುದೂ ಒಂದೇ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಮರಣದಂಡನೆಗೆ ಸಮ- ಎಂದನು. 

ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನ ಕಂಗಳು ತುಂಬಿ ಬಂದವು.ಒಡನೆಯೇ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಹೊರಟನು.ತನ್ನ ಮನೆಗೂ ಹೋಗದೆ ನೇರ ಸರಯೂನದಿಯ ತೀರಕ್ಕೆ  ಹೋದನು. ಅದಾಗಲೇ ದೇವತೆಗಳು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರೆದಿದ್ದರು. ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನು ಶುದ್ಧಾಚಮನವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದನು. ಯೋಗಯುಕ್ತನಾಗಿ ಶ್ವಾಸೋಚ್ಛ್ವಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸಿದನು.ಕೂಡಲೇ ಜನರ ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಕಾಣದಂತೆ ಇಂದ್ರನು ಮಹಾಬಲಶಾಲಿಯಾದ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನನ್ನು ಸಶರೀರನಾಗಿ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋದನು.ಮಹಾವಿಷ್ಣುವಿನ ಪೂರ್ಣಾಂಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲುಭಾಗ ಕೂಡಿದ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನು ಸ್ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದುದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ದೇವತೆಗಳು ಸಂತಸದಿಂದ ಅವನನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸಿ ಸತ್ಕರಿಸಿದರು.

ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನಂತಹ ಒಬ್ಬ ಸೋದರ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ ಮಾತ್ರ-ಶ್ರೀರಾಮ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು ಸತ್ಯ!!

ಹೌದು. ದೇವತೆಗಳು ಅವರಾಗಿಯೇ ಒಲಿದರೆ ಮನುಜರನ್ನು ಸಶರೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ,ಅಮರತ್ವವನ್ನೂ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ! (ಹನುಮಂತ, ವಿಭೀಷಣರಿಗೆ ಅಮರತ್ವ,ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನಿಗೆ ಸಶರೀರ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಾರೋಹಣ..) ಆದರೆ ಇವುಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಎಷ್ಟೇ ತಪಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡಿದರೂ; ನಾವಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿದರೂ ಅವೆರಡನ್ನೂ ಕೊಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.(ತ್ರಿಶಂಕು, ರಾವಣ,ಮೇಘನಾದ, ಶಂಬೂಕ..) ಅಲ್ಲವೇ?

ಒಲಿದು ಬರಬೇಕು-ಹೋಗಬೇಕು.

Lakshmana is in a fix !

That's it, only a moment ! Lakshmana who was duty bound utters - 

"Ekasya maranam mestumaa

bhootsarvavinaasham "

Which means, 

It doesn't matter if I alone die, but everything should not get annihilated !" - by deciding this he informed ShreeRama about the arrival of Durvaasa. 

Soon after sending off Kaalapurusha, ShreeRama welcomed Durvaasa. Rama prays to him that " the great sage ,what shall I do for you? Kindly say that ". During the time Durvaasa says to Rama - " ShreeRama, I have been performing fasting for one year due to observance which has got accomplished today. Therefore, I wish to eat the food whatever is prepared in your palace ". On hearing this, ShreeRama served him food with great respect . Durvaasa who felt contented having that went to his hermitage by blessing ShreeRama. 

Now Rama is in a fix ! As per the words he had given to Kaalapurusha, Rama has to slay Lakshmana. How can he survive without Lakshmana ? While he was grieving in this way, the wise Lakshmana came . He says to ShreeRama -

" Brother ,do not grieve because of me. The fate of everyone who have been bound to the deeds of the previous birth will be like this. Be bound to the vow and slay me without any fear. If not the hell will be attained . If you have love and affection on me then slay me and be on the side of righteousness by fulfilling the words you have given ".

The distressed ShreeRama called the ministers, Vasishta and other priests immediately. He explained them the incident that had happened in detail . He told them about the duty that he had to done. During the time Vasishta says to Rama - " This is expected for me. Nobody can stand confronting fate. Therefore it will be right to sacrifice Lakshmana. Righteousness should not be ruined ". In this way he advised Rama.

ShreeRama says to Lakshmana - " Lakshmana ! I will sacrifice you. There should not be any flaw in righteousness. Sacrificing and slaying are one and the same for the virtuous men. This is equal to the capital punishment ".

The tears accumulated in the eyes of Lakshmana. He left from there immediately. He went straight away to the shore of Sarayu river without even going to his home. The Gods had already gathered there in the Sarayu river by then. Lakshmana performed Sandhyavandanam and purification ritual . He blocked exhaling and inhaling being focused . Indra took the great mighty man   Lakshmana in his mortal body to the heaven without being visible to the people. The Gods who saw Lakshmana in the heaven who was of Vishnu's quarter component, treated him with all the devotion and hospitality. 

" A brother like Lakshmana is only Lakshmana " - The statement of ShreeRama is true !!

Yes. If Gods get pleased by themselves then they take the humans in the mortal body to the heaven and grant them immortality too ! ( Immortality to Hanuman, Vibheeshana and ascent to the heaven with the mortal body to Lakshmana). But these two will not be given even if we ask and even if many penance are performed . ( Thrishanku ,Ravana, Meghanada, Shambooka...) isn't it ?

It should be come and go by itself.
