ಅಯೋಧ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ತಲುಪಿದ ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನನು ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನ ಚರಣಾರವಿಂದಗಳಿಗೆ ನಮಿಸಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಲವಣಾಸುರನ ವಧೆಯೂ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಹನ್ನೆರಡು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಿದ್ಯಮಾನಗಳ ವರದಿಯನ್ನು ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿದನು.ಸಂತುಷ್ಟನಾದ ರಾಮನು ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನನನ್ನು ಗಾಢವಾಗಿ ತಬ್ಬಿ ತನ್ನ ಆನಂದವನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದನು. ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನನು ವಿನೀತನಾಗಿ- ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನಗಲಿ ಇರಲಾರೆ,ಇಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ನಿನ್ನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇರುತ್ತೇನೆ- ಎಂದನು. ಆಗ ರಾಮನು- ವಿಷಾದ,ಕಾತರಗಳಿಗೊಳಗಾಗುವುದು ರಾಜನಿಗೆ ಉಚಿತವಲ್ಲ.ರಾಜರಾದವರು ಪರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರೂ ದುಃಖಿತರಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ ಧರ್ಮಾನುಸಾರವಾಗಿ ಭೂಮಂಡಲದ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರೂ ಪ್ರಜಾಪಾಲನೆ ಅವರ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ. ಈಗ ಹೋಗಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸು.ನಿನಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದಾಗ ಬಂದು ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಹೋಗು.ನೀನು ನನಗೆ ಪ್ರಾಣಗಳಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಪ್ರಿಯನು.ಆದರೆ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಪರಿಪಾಲನೆ ಅತ್ಯವಶ್ಯಕವಾದ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ-ಎಂದು ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿ ಅವನನ್ನು ಸಮಾಧಾನಗೊಳಿಸಿದನು.

ಏಳು ದಿನಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಅಯೋಧ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನನು ಎಂಟನೆಯ ದಿನ ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ಬೀಳ್ಕೊಂಡು ಮಧುಪುರಿಯತ್ತ ಪಯಣಿಸಿದನು. 

ರಾಮ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ ಭರತರು ಸುಸೂತ್ರವಾಗಿ ಸುಖ ಸಂತೋಷಗಳಿಂದ ರಾಜ್ಯಭಾರ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

ಒಂದು ದಿನ ವೃದ್ಧ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣನೊಬ್ಬನು ಸತ್ತು ಹೋದ ತನ್ನ ಹದಿನಾಲ್ಕು ವರ್ಷ ಪ್ರಾಯದ ಮಗನನ್ನೆತ್ತಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದು ರಾಜದ್ವಾರದ ಬಳಿ ಬಂದು ಗೋಳಾಡುತ್ತಾ- ನಾನು ಹಿಂದಿನ ಜನ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ಪಾಪ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೆನು? ಈ ಜನ್ಮ ದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪಾಪ ನಾನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಿಲ್ಲ. ನಿನಗೆ ಅಕಾಲ ಮರಣ ಯಾಕೆ ಬಂತು?ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನ ಈ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂತಹ ಮರಣ ಸಂಭವಿಸಿದುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ.ಆದರೂ ನನ್ನ ಮಗ ತೀರಿದನೆಂದರೆ ರಾಮನಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೋ ದೋಷವಿರಬೇಕು.ಬೇರೆ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂತಹ ಅಕಾಲ ಮೃತ್ಯು ವಿಲ್ಲದ ಕಾರಣ ರಾಮನದ್ದೇ ಮಹಾದೋಷವಿರಲೇಬೇಕು.ಈ ಇಕ್ಷ್ವಾಕು ರಾಜ್ಯ ಅನಾಥವಾಗಿದೆ.ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಕಾಯುವವರು ಯಾರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ...ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲೋ ಯಾವುದಾದರೂ ಪಾಪಕಾರ್ಯವು ನಡೆದಿರಬೇಕು..- ಮುಂತಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿ ಅಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು.

ಅವನ ಗೋಳಾಟವನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ ರಾಮನು ವಸಿಷ್ಠರೇ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಪುರೋಹಿತರನ್ನು,ನಾರದರೇ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಗಳನ್ನು,ಸಚಿವರನ್ನು,ಪ್ರಜಾಪ್ರಮುಖರನ್ನು ಸಮಾಲೋಚನೆಗಾಗಿ ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸಿದನು.

Shatrughna who reached Ayodhya fell to the feet of Rama to seek his blessing. He submitted the report of all the actual happenings which had taken place there for 12 years, to Rama  including the slaying of Lavanaasura. Rama who felt contented expressed his happiness by embracing Shatrughna immensely. Shatrughna being humble says to Rama that - ' I can not live being departed from you, and I will be with you ". During the time Rama consoles Shatrughna that - ' being subject to sorrow, agitation is not right for the king. Those who are kings will never be in sorrow even if he is in an alien land. As per the duties of Kshatriya, whichever region they are on this earth ,the protection of the subjects is their duty. Now go and fulfill your duty. Visit us whenever you want to come. You are very dear to me more than my life. But protecting the state is the most important duty above all ". Shatrughna who was there in Ayodhya for seven days, in the morning of 8th day, being sent off by everyone , travelled towards Madhupuri.

Rama - Lakshmana - Bharatha were reigning the state with pleasure and happiness with ease. One day an old Brahmana came to the royal entrance carrying his 14 years old dead son and began to cry. He says - 

" What sin have I committed in my previous birth? I have not committed any sin in this birth. Why has this untimely death approached you ? This kind of death has never occurred in this period of ShreeRama. But still, if my son has expired then there must be some flaw in Rama. There must be the biggest flaw in Rama because this kind of untimely death is not there in any other states. This kingdom of Ikshvaku has become an orphan. There is none to protect us... A sinful deed might have done somewhere in the state..." - These are the words of the old man.

Rama who heard the lamentation of the old man, invited Vasishta and other priests, Naarada and other Maharshis, ministers and the representatives of the people for the consultation.
