ಶ್ರೀರಾಮಾಯಣ ಹಕ್ಕಿನೋಟ -೧೭೬

ದರ್ಪಿಷ್ಟ ದುರಹಂಕಾರಿ ರಾವಣನಿಗೆ ಸೋತರೂ ಬುದ್ದಿ ಬಂದಿಲ್ಲ. ಮತ್ತೆ ಭೂಮಂಡಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾತ್ರೆ ಮುಂದುವರೆಯಿತು. ಈ ಸಲ ಅವನು ಕಿಷ್ಕಿಂಧೆಗೆ ದಾಳಿಯಿಟ್ಟ.ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ರಾಜ ಬಲಿಷ್ಠ ವಾಲಿ,ಇಂದ್ರನ ಮಗ.ವಾನರರಾಜ. ಇವನು ಹೋಗುವ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಅವನು ಸಂಧ್ಯಾವಂದನೆಗೆಂದು ಸಮುದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದ. ಪ್ರತಿ ದಿನ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಸಮುದ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಧ್ಯಾವಂದನೆ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಅವನ ನಿಯಮ.ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದೂವರೆ ಮುಹೂರ್ತ ಕಾಲ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ.ಅವನು ಬರುವ ತನಕ ಕಾಯುವ ಸಹನೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ರಾವಣ ವಾಲಿ ಸಂಧ್ಯಾವಂದನೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಮುದ್ರದ ಬಳಿಗೇ ಪುಷ್ಪಕದಲ್ಲಿ ತೆರಳಿದ. ಸದ್ದಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಹಿಂದಿನಿಂದ ಹೋಗಿ ಹಿಡಿಯುವ ಹುನ್ನಾರ ರಾವಣನದು.ಸುಳಿವರಿತ ವಾಲಿ ಅವನು ಬರುವ ತನಕ ಕಾದು ರಾವಣ ಕೈಚಾಚುವ ಮೊದಲೇ ಅವನ ಕುತ್ತಿಗೆಗೆ ಕೈಹಾಕಿ ಕಂಕುಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವುಚಿ ಎತ್ತಿಕೊಂಡು ಆಗಸಕ್ಕೆ  ಹಾರಿದ. ಪುಲಸ್ತ್ಯ ಮೊದಲಾದವರು ಹಿಂಬಾಲಿಸಿದರೂ ಅವನ ವೇಗಕ್ಕೆ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ಗಾಳಿಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿ ಸೋತರು.ನೋಡುಗರಿಗೆ ಆಟ- ತಮಾಷೆ!ರಾವಣನಿಗೆ ಅಪಮಾನ ಪ್ರಾಣಸಂಕಟ!

ದಕ್ಷಿಣ,ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ,ಉತ್ತರ ಮತ್ತು ಪೂರ್ವ ಸಮುದ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಾವಣನನ್ನು ಅವುಚಿ ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಂಡೇ ಸಂಧ್ಯಾವಂದನೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಮುಗಸಿದ.ರಾವಣನಿಗೆ ಸುಸ್ತೋ ಸುಸ್ತು!ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಹಾಗೇ ಕಿಷ್ಕಿಂಧೆಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದ.ಅಲ್ಲಿಯ ಉಪವನದಲ್ಲಿಳಿಸಿ ರಾವಣನನ್ನು ವಿಚಾರಿಸಿದ.

ರಾವಣನು ತನ್ನ ಪರಿಚಯ ಉದ್ದೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿ ಯುದ್ಧಾರಂಭಿಸುವ ಮೊದಲೇ ಸೋಲೊಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡ.

ಸಂಧಿಮಾಡಿ ಅಗ್ನಿಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾಗಿ ವಾಲಿಯೊಡನೆ ಸ್ನೇಹವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡ.'ಮಡದಿ-ಮಕ್ಕಳು, ನಗರ,ರಾಜ್ಯ, ಭೋಗ,ವಸ್ತ್ರ,ಭೋಜನ-ಈ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ವಿಭಾಗವಿಲ್ಲದೇ ನಮ್ಮಿಬ್ಬರಿಗೂ ಸಮಾನವಾಗಿರಲಿ' ಎನ್ನುವ ಒಪ್ಪಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದರು. ಬಳಿಕ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ವಾಲಿಯ ಅರಮನೆಗೆ ತೆರಳಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ತಿಂಗಳ ಕಾಲ ವಾಲಿಯ ಆತಿಥ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದು  ಲಂಕೆಗೆ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿದ. ಇದು ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯರು ರಾಮನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ ಕತೆ!

Though the arrogant and the egotist Ravana got defeated, he didn't regain his rationality. The journey continued on the earth again. This time he marched on Kishkindha. The king of Kishkindha was the mighty Vaali, the son of Indra. The king of the apes. By the time Ravana arrived there Vaali had gone to the sea to perform 'Sandhyavandanam' . Performing Sandhyavandanam in the four seas everyday was his practice. He used to spend one and half Muhoortha for this. Ravana who did not have patience to wait until he returned, went to the where Vaali was performing Sandhyavandanam ,in Pushpaka. Catching Vaali from the back without giving any hints was the strategy of Ravana. Vaali who got the hint of Ravana's arrival waited there. Even before Ravana stretched his hand ,Vaali caught hold of Ravana in his neck and flew into the sky by carrying Ravana in his arms tightly.  Even though Pulastya and others followed, they got defeated by the wind which arose due to the speed of Vaali. It was fun and a play for those who were witnessing ! But for Ravana, humiliation and sheer misery !

Vaali performed Sandhyavandanam in the oceans of the South, the West, the North and the East by holding in his hand tightly. Ravana was fatigued ! 

At last he brought Ravana to Kishkindha in the same manner. He brought Ravana down to Upavana there and enquired. 

Ravana accepted his defeat even before waging the war and introduced himself and explained the purpose behind his arrival there. Ravana compromised and made friendship with Vaali with fire as witness. They both came to an agreement that - " Wife - children, town ,state, pleasure, clothe - feast - let all these to be equal for both of us without any divisions ".

After that he went to the abode of Vaali and returned to Lanka after accepting the hospitality of Vaali for 1 month.

This is the story that Agasthya narrated to Rama !
