ಶ್ರೀರಾಮಾಯಣ ಹಕ್ಕಿನೋಟ-೧೭೧

ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯರು ರಾಮನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುವ ರಾವಣನ ಕತೆ!ವಿಶ್ರವಸುವೆಂಬ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನ ಮಗ ದುರಾತ್ಮನಾದ ಕತೆ! ಅವನು ವಧಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆಗೆ ಅರ್ಹನಾಗಿದ್ದ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುವ ಕತೆ!!

ವೇದವತಿ ಪ್ರಸಂಗ ರಾವಣನ ಮೇಲೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರಲಿಲ್ಲ.ಅವನ ಜೈತ್ರಯಾತ್ರೆ 'ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡಿ ಇಲ್ಲವೇ ಶರಣಾಗಿ'ಎನ್ನುವ ತತ್ತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂದುವರೆಯಿತು. ಶರಣಾದವರನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟ,ಆಗದವರನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದ!

ಬೃಹಸ್ಪತಿಯ ಸೋದರ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮರ್ಷಿ ಸಂವರ್ತನು ಮರುತ್ತನಿಂದ ಯಜ್ಞವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು.ದೇವತೆಗಳು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರೆದಿದ್ದರು. ರಾವಣನು ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ದಾಳಿ ಇಟ್ಟಾಗ ಅವರೆಲ್ಲ ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳ ರೂಪ ತಳೆದು ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾದರು.ಮರುತ್ತನು ಯಜ್ಞದೀಕ್ಷಿತನಾದ ಕಾರಣ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡಲಿಲ್ಲ. ರಾವಣನು ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಗೆದ್ದಿದ್ದೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದ ಋಷಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಂದು ತಿಂದನು.ರಾವಣನು ಹೋದ ಬಳಿಕ ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳ ರೂಪದಿಂದ ಹೊರಬಂದ ದೇವತೆಗಳು ತಾವು ರೂಪಾಂತರ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳಿಗೆ ವರಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟರು-

•ನಿನಗೆ  ಸರ್ಪಭಯವಿಲ್ಲದಿರಲಿ,

ನಿನ್ನ ರೆಕ್ಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು ಮೂಡಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಅಂದವು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಲಿ ಎಂದು ಇಂದ್ರನು ನವಿಲಿಗೆ,

•ನೀನು ನಿರೋಗಿಯಾಗಿರು,

ಮರಣಭಯ ಬಾಧಿಸದಿರಲಿ,

ಪಿತೃಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪಿತೃಗಳು ನಿನಗೆ ಅವರ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಅನ್ನ ನೀಡಿ ತೃಪ್ತಿ ಪಡಿಸಿದರೆ ಅವರೂ ತೃಪ್ತರಾಗಲಿ ಎಂದು ಯಮನು ಕಾಗೆಗೆ,

•ನಿನ್ನ ಮೈಬಣ್ಣವು ಬಿಳಿಯಾಗಿ ಮನೋಹರವಾಗಿರಲಿ ಎಂದು ವರುಣನು ಹಂಸಕ್ಕೆ ವರನೀಡಿದರು.

•ನಿನ್ನ ಕಪ್ಪು ಬಣ್ಣದ ಶರೀರವು ಚಿನ್ನದ ಬಣ್ಣವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಲಿ ಎಂದು ಕುಬೇರನು ಓತಿಕ್ಯಾತಕ್ಕೆ-

ವರ ನೀಡಿದನು.ಬಳಿಕ ದೇವತೆಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ತಮ್ಮ ನಿವಾಸಗಳಿಗೆ ತೆರಳಿದರು. 

ಭೂಲೋಕದ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ರಾಜರುಗಳು ರಾವಣನಿಗೆ ಶರಣಾಗಿ ಅವನ ಅಡಿಯಾಳಾದರು.ಆದರೆ ಅಯೋಧ್ಯೆಯ ಇಕ್ಷ್ವಾಕು ವಂಶದ ರಾಜ ಅನರಣ್ಯ ಶರಣಾಗದೆ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ ಧರ್ಮ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡಿ ಹೋರಾಡಿ ಸೋತು ವೀರಮರಣವನ್ನಪ್ಪಿದ.ಅವನು ಅಸಹಾಯಕನಾಗಿ ರಣರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿದ್ದಿದ್ದಾಗ ರಾವಣನು ಅವನನ್ನು ಹಂಗಿಸಿ ಭಂಗಿಸಿದ್ದ.ಇದರಿಂದ ನೊಂದು ಸಿಟ್ಟಿಗೆದ್ದ ಅನರಣ್ಯನು-

ವೀರಮರಣವನ್ನಪ್ಪುತ್ತಿರುವ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಹಂಗಿಸಿ ಇಕ್ಷ್ವಾಕು ಕುಲವನ್ನು ಅಪಮಾನಿಸಿದೆ.

ನಾನು ಇಕ್ಷ್ವಾಕು ಕುಲಧರ್ಮ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ನಡೆದುಕೊಂಡದ್ದು ನಿಜವಾದರೆ ನನ್ನ ವಂಶದ ದಶರಥರಾಜನ ಮಗನಾಗಿ ಜನಿಸುವ ರಾಮನಿಂದ ನೀನು ಸಾಯುವೆ- ಎಂದು ಶಪಿಸಿ ಪ್ರಾಣ ಬಿಟ್ಟನು.ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ರಾವಣನ ಮರಣ ಯಾರಿಂದ ಎಂಬುದು ನಿಶ್ಚಯವಾಯಿತು!  ಆದರೂ ಪಾಪಿ ಚಿರಾಯು ಎಂಬಂತೆ  ಉದ್ಧಟ ರಾವಣ ತನ್ನ ಜೈತ್ರಯಾತ್ರೆ ಎಂಬ ಪತನಯಾತ್ರೆಯನ್ನು ಎಗ್ಗಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಮುಂದುವರೆಸಿದ.

The story that Agasthya narrates to Rama is the story of Ravana !

The story of a wretch who was the son of a great man Vishravasu ! This is a story which tells that his son was worthy of death punishment !!

The incident of Vedavathi did not affect Ravana in anyways. His journey of expedition continued on the principle of ' Combat or surrender '. He let those who surrendered live and killed those who did not !

Brahmashree Samvartha the brother of Bruhaspathi was performing sacrificial ritual from Marutha. The gods gathered there. When Ravana marched there, they all disappeared from there being disguised as birds. Marutha did not battle since he was under a religious observance. Ravana announced that he won the battle and consumed the sages who had come there, by assassinating them. After the departure of Ravana, the gods came out from their disguised forms and granted boons to the birds which gods had chosen to disguise themselves -

• Indra granted boons to Peacock - ' may you not have the fear of snakes. Let your beauty be enhanced even more with the emergence of so many eyes in your feathers '.

• Yama to crow - ' Let you be healthy. Let the fear of death not worry you. If the ancestors and their offsprings satisfy you by offering food then let them too be satisfied '.

• Varuna to Swan - ' Let your complexion be fair and attractive '.

• Kubera to lizard - ' Let your dark skinned body possess golden color '.

After this ,the gods returned to their respective abodes. 

Most of the kings on the earth surrendered themselves to Ravana and became his slaves. But the king of Ikshvaku clan and Ayodhya, Anaranya without surrendering himself fought by following the Kshatriya Dharma and met with a glorious death. When he was lying in the battlefield helplessly Ravana had insulted him by sneering at him.  Anaranya who got angry being hurt said that Ravana had humiliated the clan of Ikshvaku by sneering at him who was meeting a glorious death. He died by cursing that if he had truly acted according to the righteousness of the clan Ikshvaku then Ravana would be slayed by Rama who would born as the son of Dasharatha of his own clan. It was confirmed by then that who would Ravana be slayed by ! But still as the saying "sinner is immortal " the impudent Ravana continued the downfall journey called journey of expedition.
