ಶ್ರೀರಾಮಾಯಣ ಹಕ್ಕಿನೋಟ -೧೬೬

ರಾಮನಿಗೆ ಕತೆ ಕೇಳುವುದೆಂದರೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಪ್ರೀತಿ. ಇದು ಕಥೆಯೊಳಗಿನ ಕತೆ.ರಾಮ ತನ್ನ ಮೂಲರೂಪವಾದ ಮಹಾವಿಷ್ಣುವಿನ ಸಾಹಸ ಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವ ಕತೆ.

ಸರ್ವಜ್ಞ ರಾಮನಿಗೆ ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯರು ರಾಕ್ಷಸರ ಕತೆ ಹೇಳತೊಡಗಿದರು-

ಪದ್ಮಜ ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿಯು ಮೊದಲು ನೀರನ್ನು (ಕಡಲು)ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದ.ಅದರ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಜಲಜೀವಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದ.ತಮ್ಮ ಹೊಣೆಯರಿಯದಿದ್ದ ಜೀವಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವೇನೆಂಬುದನ್ನು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇಳಿದವು.ಆಗ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನು ಸಮುದ್ರಗಳ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ಹೇಳಿದ.ಆಗ ಕೆಲವು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು  'ರಕ್ಷಾಮ'- ನೀನು ಹೇಳಿದಂತೆ ರಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂದವು.ಮತ್ತೆ ಕೆಲವು 'ಯಕ್ಷಾಮ'-ಜಲವನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂದವು.

ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿಯು ರಕ್ಷಾಮ  ಎಂದವರನ್ನು 'ರಾಕ್ಷಸರು' ಎಂದೂ,'ಯಕ್ಷಾಮ' ಎಂದವರನ್ನು 'ಯಕ್ಷರು' ಎಂದೂ ನಾಮಕರಣ ಮಾಡಿ ಈ ಹೆಸರುಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧರಾಗಿ ಎಂದ.ಹೀಗೆ ರಾಕ್ಷಸ- ಯಕ್ಷ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳಾದವು.

ರಾಕ್ಷಸರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇತಿ-ಪ್ರಹೇತಿ ಸೋದರರು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧರು.

ಪ್ರಹೇತಿ ವಿರಕ್ತನಾಗಿ ತಪಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ತೆರಳಿದ. ಹೇತಿ ಕಾಲಪುರುಷನ ತಂಗಿ ಭಯಾಳನ್ನು ಮದುವೆಯಾಗಿ ಮಗ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ಕೇಶನನ್ನು ಪಡೆದ.

ಸಂಧ್ಯಾದೇವಿಯ ಮಗಳು ಸಾಲಕಂಟಕೆಯನ್ನು ಮದುವೆಯಾದ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ಕೇಶನಿಗೆ ಸುಕೇಶನೆಂಬ ಮಗ.ಇವನು ಪಾರ್ವತಿ  ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರರ ಭಕ್ತ.ಇವನ ಹೆಂಡತಿ ಗಂಧರ್ವ ಪುತ್ರಿ ದೇವವತೀ.ಇವರ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಮಾಲ್ಯವಂತ,ಸುಮಾಲೀ ಮಾಲೀ.ಇವರು ಮಹಾ ತಪಸ್ವಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನಿಂದ ಅಜೇಯತ್ವ,ಸೋದರ ಪ್ರೇಮದ ವರಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆದರು.ವರ ಪ್ರಭಾವದಿಂದ ಲೋಕಕಂಟಕರಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆದರು.ಇವರ ಕೋರಿಕೆಯ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮನು ಇಂದ್ರನಿಗಾಗಿ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದ ಲಂಕಾನಗರಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟನು. ನರ್ಮದಾ ಎಂಬ ಗಂಧರ್ವಿಯ ಕನ್ಯೆಯರಾದ ಸುಂದರೀ-ಮಾಲ್ಯವಂತ,

ಕೇತುಮತೀ-ಸುಮಾಲಿ,

ವಸುಧಾ-ಮಾಲಿ 

ಇವರ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯರಾದರು.

ಇವರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾದರು.ಅವರು ಪ್ರತಾಪಶಾಲಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆದು ಲೋಕಕಂಟಕರಾದರು.

ದೇವತೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಯ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ಮಹಾವಿಷ್ಣುವು ಗರುಡ ವಾಹನನಾಗಿ ಲಂಕೆಗೆ ಬಂದು  ಇವರನ್ನು ಸಂಹರಿಸಿದನು.ಮಾಲಿಯ ಸಂಹಾರವಾಯಿತು.ಮಾಲ್ಯವಂತ ಸುಮಾಲಿಯರು ಅಳಿದುಳಿದ ರಾಕ್ಷಸರೊಡನೆ ರಸಾತಳವನ್ನು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಗಿದರು. ಹೀಗೆ ಲಂಕೆ ಜನಶೂನ್ಯವಾಯಿತು.

Rama is very fond of hearing stories. This is a story within a story. The story of Rama hearing the story of the adventures of the great lord Vishnu who was Rama's origin.

Agasthya began to narrate the story of the monsters to the omniscient Rama - 

Prajaapathi Padmaja created water first. He created the sea creatures for the protection of water. The creatures which were not aware of their responsibilities, asked the lord Brahma of their duties. During the time Brahma told them to safeguard the seas. During the time, some animals cited ' Rakshaama' - which means they said that they would protect the seas as he had said. Some other cited ' Yakshaama' - which means they assured him that they would worship water. The leader of the people named those who cited ' Rakshaama' as ' monsters ' and those who cited ' Yakshaama' as ' Yakshas' and told them to be famous by these two names. In this way the group of the monsters and the Yakshas ( demigods) got formed. 

Hethi - Praheti brothers are well- known among the demons. Prahethi being detached from the earthly life went to perform penance. Hethi married Bhaya the sister of Kaalapurush and begot the son named Vidhyutkesha. Vidhyutkesha married Saalakantaka the daughter of Sandhyadevi and begot the son named Sukesha who was the devotee of the goddess Parwathi and the god Parameshwar. Devavathi the daughter of Gandharva( celestial being) was the wife of Sukesha. They had children named Maalyavantha ,Sumaali, and Maali.

These three who were the great ascetics gained the boons of being unconquerable and love among brothers  from Brahma. They grew as troublemakers for the world due to the power of the boon. As per their request, Vishwakarma gave them the town Lanka which he had built for Indra. The daughter of Narmada who was a celestial woman became their wives. Sundaree was married to Maalyavantha, 

Kethumathee was married to Sumaali,

and Vasudha was married to Maali.

They all begot children. The children grew being valiants and became trouble mongers for the world. 

As per the prayer of the gods, Mahaavishnu came to Lanka on ' Garuda ' and slayed these monsters. Maali got slayed. Maalyavantha and Sumaali entered the subterranean world along with the remaining monsters and hid themselves there. In this way Lanka became a desert without people.
