ಸಾರ್ವಭೌಮ ಪ್ರಭು ಶ್ರೀರಾಮಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಅಭಿನಂದಿಸಲು ಸಪ್ತರ್ಷಿಗಳೂ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಗಳು ಅಯೋಧ್ಯೆಗೆ ಬಂದರು.ರಾಮ ಅಭಿವಂದಿಸಿದ,ಅವರು ಹರಸಿ ಅಭಿನಂದಿಸಿದರು.ಸಪ್ತರ್ಷಿಗಳಾದ  ವಸಿಷ್ಠ, ಕಶ್ಯಪ,

ಅತ್ರಿ,ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರ, ಗೌತಮ, ಜಮದಗ್ನಿ,ಭರಧ್ವಾಜರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಗಳೂ ಇದ್ದರು.ಅವರು ಪುಲಸ್ತ್ಯ ವಂಶಜರ ಕುರಿತು ಹೇಳುವಾಗ ಇಂದ್ರಜಿತುವನ್ನು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ವರ್ಣಿಸಿದರು.ಆಗ ರಾಮನಿಗೆ ಸಹಜವಾಗಿಯೇ ಅಚ್ಚರಿಯಾಯಿತು. ಕಾರಣವನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ. 

ಆಗ ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯರು ಅವನ ಕುತೂಹಲವನ್ನು  ತಣಿಸಲು ವಿಶ್ರವಸುವಿನಿಂದ ತೊಡಗಿ ರಾಕ್ಷಸರ ಚರಿತ್ರೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಕೃತಯುಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿಬ್ರಹ್ಮನಿಗೆ ಪುಲಸ್ತ್ಯನೆಂಬ ಮಗ.ಅವನು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮರ್ಷಿ.ರಾಜರ್ಷಿ ತೃಣಬಿಂದುವಿನ ಮಗಳು ಅವನ ಸತಿ.ಇವರ ಮಗ ತಪಸ್ವಿ ವಿಶ್ರವಸ(ವಿಶ್ರವಣ).ವಿಶ್ರವಸನ ಪತ್ನಿ ಭರಧ್ವಾಜರ ಮಗಳು. ಇವರ ಮಗ ವೈಶ್ರವಣ.ಇವನು ತಪಸ್ವಿ, ಪರಮ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ.

ವೈಶ್ರವಣನು ಕಠೋರವಾದ ತಪಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ.

ಅವನಿಗೆ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನು ಒಲಿದ.

ಯಾವ ವರ ಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ವೈಶ್ರವಣನು ಲೋಕಪಾಲ ಪದವಿಯನ್ನು ಬಯಸಿದ.ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನು ಲೋಕಪಾಲ ಪದವಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಧನಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆಯನ್ನೂ, ಅವನಿಗೆ ಸಂಚರಿಸಲು ಪುಷ್ಪಕ ವಿಮಾನವನ್ನೂ ಅನುಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದ.

ವೈಶ್ರವಣನಿಗೆ ವಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಸೂಕ್ತವಾದ ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಬೇಕಾಯಿತು. ತಂದೆಯಲ್ಲಿ  ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಅವನು  ಇಂದ್ರನ ಅಮರಾವತಿಯಂತಿರುವ ಲಂಕೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ವಾಸಿಸಲು ಹೇಳಿದ. ಅದು ರಾಕ್ಷಸರ ವಾಸವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಶೂನ್ಯ ವಾಗಿತ್ತು.ವೈಶ್ರವಣನು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸ ತೊಡಗಿದನು.ಅವನು ಬಂದುದನ್ನರಿತ ರಾಕ್ಷಸರು ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ತಾವೂ ಠಿಕಾಣಿ ಹೂಡಿದರು. 

ಈ ಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ ರಾಮನಿಗೆ ಸಹಜವಾಗಿಯೇ ಅಚ್ಚರಿಯಾಯಿತು-ಲಂಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಕ್ಷಸರು ಯಾಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲವಾದರು?-ಎಂದು.

ರಾಮನು ಅಚ್ಚರಿಯಿಂದ ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯರನ್ನು  ಈ ಕುರಿತು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಿದ.ಆಗ ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯರು ಅದರ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳತೊಡಗಿದರು.

The Maharshis including the seven Maharshis came to see and congratulate the emperor ,the lord ShreeRamachandra to Ayodhya. Rama greeted them reverentially and they blessed and congratulated him. Along with the seven Maharshis namely Vasishta, Kashyapa, Atri, Vishwamitra, Gauthama, Jamadagni, Bharadhwaja there were also Agasthya Maharshi. They described Indrajith specifically while talking about the clan of Pulastya, which surprised Rama naturally. He asked the reason. During the time Agasthya told him the entire history right from Vishravasu till the history of the monsters to satisfy the curiosity of Rama. 

The lord of people Brahma had the son named ' Pulastya ' in 'Krutha Yuga' ,who was a Brahmashree ( the sage). The daughter of the king Thrunabindu was his wife and the son of these two was Vishravasa ( Vishravan) who was an ascetic. The wife of Vishravasa was the daughter of Bharadhwaja. They had son named Vaishravana, who was an ascetic and supremely religious. 

Vaishravan was penancing ardently. The lord Brahma was pleased by him. When he asked him which boon he wished to get ,Vaishrava wished to be the guardian of the world( Lokapala).  Brahma along with the position of the guardian of the world made him the treasurer and granted him ' Pushpaka Vimaana ' to move around. 

Vaishravan required a suitable region to live. When he asked his father ,he told him to go and live in the beautiful Lanka of Indra which was like Amaraavathi . It had become a desert without the stay of the monsters. Vaishravana began to live there.

But the monsters too who came to know about his arrival there, came and got settled there itself. 

Rama got surprised naturally when he heard the story. The question arose in his mind - ' Why are the monsters not there in Lanka ?'

Rama asked the same with Agasthya being surprised. During the time Agasthya began to narrate the history of that.
