 ಶ್ರೀರಾಮಾಯನಮ:

ರಾಮಾಯಣ ಹಕ್ಕಿನೋಟ-೫೨

ರಾಮನ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಭರತನು-ಅಣ್ಣನಿರುವಾಗ ತಮ್ಮನಾದವನು ಪಟ್ಟವೇರಬಾರದು ಎಂಬುದು ನಮ್ಮ ವಂಶದ ನಂಬಿಕೆ,ಆಚರಣೆ, ಪದ್ಧತಿ,ಪರಂಪರೆ.ಆದುದರಿಂದ ನೀನು ಅಯೋಧ್ಯೆಗೆ ಮರಳಿ ಬಂದು ರಾಜ್ಯವನ್ನಾಳು.ನಾನು ಕೇಕಯದಲ್ಲಿ; ನೀನು ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವಾಗ ನಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆ ನಮ್ಮ ರಾಜನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಅಗಲುವಿಕೆಯ ನೋವು ತಾಳಲಾರದೇ ಮನೋರೋಗದಿಂದ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಸ್ಥನಾದನು.ನೀನು ಅಕ್ಕರೆಯ ಮಗ.ನಿನ್ನಿಂದ ಕೊಡಲ್ಪಡುವ ತರ್ಪಣದಿಂದ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಪಿತೃಲೋಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಕ್ಷಯ ಫಲವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವುದು.ನಾನೂ ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನನೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವನ್ನು ನೆರವೇರಿಸಿದ್ದೇವೆ.-ಎಂದನು.

ತಂದೆಯ ಮರಣವಾರ್ತೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ರಾಮನು ದು:ಖವನ್ನು ಸಹಿಸಲಾರದೆ ಮೂರ್ಛಿತನಾದನು.ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ ಸೀತೆಯರು ಅಳತೊಡಗಿದರು.ನಿಧಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಎಚ್ಚೆತ್ತ ರಾಮನು-ಗತಿಸಿದ ತಂದೆಗೆ ಉತ್ತರ ಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗದ ನಾನು ಎಂತಹ ಪಾಪಿ.(ವನವಾಸದ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಮ ಸೀತೆ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣರು ಅತಿ ಸುಖಿಯಾಗಿ ವಿಹರಿಸಿದ್ದುದು ಇದೇ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ!)ವನವಾಸ ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಅಯೋಧ್ಯೆಗೆ ಮರಳಿದ ಬಳಿಕ ನನಗೆ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡುವವರಿನ್ನು ಯಾರು?...-ಮುಂತಾಗಿ ಶೋಕಿಸಿದನು.ಕೊನೆಗೆ ತಾನೇ ಧೈರ್ಯ ತಂದುಕೊಂಡು ಅಳುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸೋದರರನ್ನು, ಸೀತೆಯನ್ನು ಸಂತೈಸಿ ತರ್ಪಣ ಬಿಡಲು ಸಿದ್ಧತೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದನು.ಮಂದಾಕಿನೀ ನದಿಗೆ ತರ್ಪಣ ಬಿಡಲು ಹೋಗುವಾಗ ಮುಂದೆ ಸೀತೆ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ ಬಳಿಕ ತಾನು ಅನುಸರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು (ದುಃಖದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೀಗೆ ಹೋಗುವುದು ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯ)ಹೋದನು.ಅಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಮನು ಹಿಪ್ಪೇಕಾಯಿಯ ಹಿಂಡಿಗೆ ಯಲಚೀಕಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಬೆರೆಸಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪಿಂಡವನ್ನು ಹರಡಿದ ದರ್ಭೆಯ ಮೇಲಿರಿಸಿ ದುಃಖ ತಡೆಯಲಾಗದೆ ಅಳುತ್ತಾ-"ಯದನ್ನ: ಪುರುಷೋಭವತಿ ತದನ್ನಾಸ್ತಸ್ಯ ದೇವತಾ:-ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾನವನು ಯಾವುದನ್ನು ಉಣ್ಣುತ್ತಾನೋ ಅದನ್ನೇ ತನ್ನ ದೇವತೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಉಣಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ"ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾ ಪಿಂಡ ಪ್ರದಾನ ಮಾಡಿದನು.ಬಳಿಕ ಅವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಪರ್ಣಕುಟಿಗೆ ಮರಳಿದರು.

ಯಥಾ ಶಕ್ತಿ,ಯಥಾ ಸಾಧ್ಯ.. ನಾವು ಮಾಡುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಿಗೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಹಿರಿಯರು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಟ್ಟ ಮೇಲ್ಪಂಕ್ತಿ.

ರಾಮನು ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದು ನಮಗೆ ತೋರಿದ.

ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿ ತಂದೆಗೆ ಸಾರ್ವಭೌಮನಾಗುವ ಮಗ ನೀಡಿದ ಪಿಂಡ ಪ್ರದಾನ! ಅರಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೀರಿದ ತಂದೆಗೆ ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿರಿಮಗನ ಉತ್ತರಕ್ರಿಯೆ.

After listening to Rama , Bharatha stated that a younger brother was not supposed to ascend the throne when there was an elder brother ,moreover it was against the heritage, tradition and custom of their clan. He requested Rama to return to Ayodhya and to rule the kingdom. He let Rama know about the demise of Dhasharatha. He told Rama,  Dhasharatha passed away who had been suffering mentally, being unable to endure the pain of Rama's departure. Bharatha was in ' Kekaya' and Rama was in the forest. Further he said that , Rama was close to the heart of Dhasharatha and Dhasharatha would get salvation only if Rama offered oblation ( Tharpana) and Bharatha had performed his  duty along with Shatrughna.  The news of Dhasharatha's demise gave a hard blow to Rama . Rama fainted and fell unconscious when he heard his father was no more. Lakshmana and Seetha broke into tears.  Rama got over slowly and started accusing himself who could not perform the last rites of his father. ( It was the same time that Rama ,Seetha and Lakshmana were wandering in the forest happily). 

Rama mourned for his dead father. He questioned who would guide him after returning to Ayodhya.  At last he gathered himself and consoled Seetha and his brother.  He asked Lakshmana  to arrange everything to perform the ritual of offering oblation. The three of them walked towards the river Mandaakini to perform the last rites by following each other .Seetha was in the front, Lakshmana was in the middle and Rama was in the last ( This was the tradition to be followed during the time of sorrow). Rama prepared oblation (Pinda) by replacing the fruits and seeds of Yalachi and Pippali ( trees in the forest) by rice and sesame. He placed them on Darbe grass which were spread over there and unable to control his emotions he broke into tears . Finally he offered oblation and performed the last rites of Dhasharatha by reciting:

" Yadannaha Purushobhavathi

   thadannastasya devathaa" 

Which means , " The man offers the same food to his Gods that he consumes in the world ". After the completion of the ritual, they returned to the dwelling of Rama.

So far as practicable according to one's ability. (Yatha Shakthi , Yatha Saadhya..).

All the religious works and rituals that we follow and perform are guided by our ancestors. 

Rama threw light on them by following them.

The son who would be the prince offered oblation to the father who had been an emperor!!. The last rites of the father who died in the palace ,were performed by the elder son in the forest. 

The will of fate!!
