ರಾಮಾಯಣ ಹಕ್ಕಿ ನೋಟ-೫

ಸಮೃದ್ಧ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಸಮರ್ಥ ರಾಜನಾದ ದಶರಥನಿಗೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಅವನು ತುಂಬಾ ಚಿಂತಿತನೂ ದು:ಖಿತನೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದನು.ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ದೇವರ ಅನುಗ್ರಹ ಪಡೆಯಬೇಕು.ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಅಶ್ವಮೇಧ ಯಾಗವನ್ನು ಯಾಕೆ ಮಾಡಬಾರದು?ಎಂದು ಬಗೆದು ವಸಿಷ್ಠ ವಾಮದೇವರೇ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಗುರು ಪುರೋಹಿತರುಗಳನ್ನು ಕರೆದು ಸಲಹೆ ಕೇಳಿದನು.ಅವರು ಸಂತಸದಿಂದ ಒಪ್ಪಿಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಶುಭ ಹಾರೈಸಿದರು.

ಸರಯೂ ನದಿಯ ಉತ್ತರ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಕೆಯ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾಯಿತು.ಗುರುಗಳು, ಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳು,ಜನನಾಯಕರು... ಹೀಗೆ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ದೇಶವೇ ಯಜ್ಞದ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಕೈಗೂಡಿಸಿತು.ದಶರಥನು ತನ್ನ ಮೂವರು ರಾಣಿಯರಾದ ಕೌಸಲ್ಯೆ ಸುಮಿತ್ರೆ ಕೈಕೇಯಿಯರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಯಜ್ಞದೀಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಂಡನು.ಅಂಗದೇಶದ ರಾಜನ ಅಳಿಯ ಋಷ್ಯಶೃಂಗ ತನ್ನ ಹೆಂಡತಿ ಶಾಂತಾಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಯಜ್ಞದ ನೇತೃತ್ವವನ್ನು ವಹಿಸಿದನು.ವಸಿಷ್ಠ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಗಳ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಶ್ವಮೇಧಯಾಗವು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ನಡೆಯಿತು.ಮಹಾನ್ ಋಷಿಗಳು,ದೇಶ ವಿದೇಶಗಳ ರಾಜರು, ಮಹಾಜನರು ಹೀಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು.

ಸರ್ವ ಪಾಪಗಳನ್ನು ನಾಶ ಮಾಡುವ ಅಶ್ವಮೇಧಯಾಗವು ಮಂಗಳಕರವಾಗಿ ಮುಗಿದ ಬಳಿಕ ಋಷ್ಯಶೃಂಗ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಗಳು ದಶರಥನಿಂದ ಸಂತಾನ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಿಗಾಗಿ ಪುತ್ರ ಕಾಮೇಷ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಸಿದನು.

Dhasharatha was an efficient ruler of the prosperous kingdom  Ayodhya and had everything in life that one could ever have. But unfortunately he had no children and that became the source of his worry and unhappiness in life. So he thought of performing 'Ashwamedha yaga ' to get the grace of god to beget children. So he called his kula Gurus Vasishta Vamadeva and others and his ministers to bring the matter into the discussion and to ask their suggestions. They all agreed for the decision of the King happily and blessed him.

Finally everything was set and got ready for the religious ceremony in the northen part of the river Sarayu. Kula Gurus (mentors)ministers, rulers and entire Kosala gathered there to witness the Ashwamedha yaga. 

Dhasharatha accompanied by his three wives namely Kausalya, Kaikeyi,and Sumithre took the initiation and consecrated himself to perform a religious ceremony. The Yaga was performed in the leadership of Rushyashrunga who had come along with his wife Shantha ,the daughter of the king  of the country Anga. Ashwamedha yaga performed with all the rites in an organized way as guided by Vasishta Maharshi. It was performed in the presence of scores of people including the great Maharshis, and Kings of different states and countries. 

Ashwamedha yaga which was believed to absolve the sins ,performed auspiciously .

After this Dhasharatha had to perform 'Putra Kaameshti' to be blessed with children as recommended by Rushya Shrunga Maharshi .
