 ಶ್ರೀರಾಮಾಯನಮ:

ರಾಮಾಯಣ ಹಕ್ಕಿನೋಟ-೪೪

"ಮಾಡಬಾರದ್ದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ಆಗಬಾರದ್ದು ಆದೀತು" - ದಶರಥ ಕೈಕೇಯಿ ಇವರಿಬ್ಬರಿಗೂ ಈ ಮಾತು ಅನ್ವಯಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಶ್ರವಣನನ್ನು ,ಅವನ ತಂದೆಯನ್ನು ನೆನೆಯುತ್ತಾ ದಶರಥನು ಮಾನಸಿಕವಾಗಿ ದೈಹಿಕವಾಗಿ ತುಂಬಾ ನಿಶ್ಶಕ್ತನಾದನು.ಜೀವನದ ಅಂತಿಮ ಕ್ಷಣಗಳು! ಹಾ ರಾಮಾ ಹಾ ಪುತ್ರಾ ಎಂದು ರಾಮನನ್ನು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಕೈಕೇಯಿಯನ್ನು ನಿಂದಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಕೊನೆಯುಸಿರೆಳೆದನು.ಸರಿರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಾದ ಕಾರಣ ಯಾರಿಗೂ ಗೊತ್ತಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ ಸೇವಕರು ಸುಪ್ರಭಾತ ಹಾಡಿ ಎಬ್ಬಿಸಲು ಬಂದಾಗಲೇ ದಶರಥನ ಮರಣದ ವಿಷಯ ಬೆಳಕಿಗೆ ಬಂತು.

ಮೂವರು ರಾಣಿಯರು ಮುನ್ನೂರಕ್ಕೂ ಮಿಕ್ಕಿ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯರು, ನಾಲ್ವರು ಮಗಂದಿರಿದ್ದರೂ ನಾಥ ದಶರಥ ಅನಾಥನಾದನು.

ಅಯೋಧ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಳುವಿನದ್ದೇ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯಾಯಿತು.

ಮಗಂದಿರು ಬರುವ ತನಕ ಶವವನ್ನು ಕೆಡದಂತೆ ಎಣ್ಣೆಯ ಕೊಪ್ಪರಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟರು.

ಇಬ್ಬರು ವನವಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ.

ಇನ್ನಿಬ್ಬರು ಮಾವನಲ್ಲಿ.

ವಸಿಷ್ಠ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಗಳ ಸಲಹೆಯಂತೆ ಭರತ ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನರನ್ನು ಕರೆತರಲು ಐವರು ರಾಜದೂತರು ರಾಜಗೃಹಕ್ಕೆ ತೆರಳಿದರು.

ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾರ್ಕಂಡೇಯ ಮುನಿ ಹೇಳಿದ ರಾಜನಿಲ್ಲದ( ಅರಾಜಕ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ) ರಾಜ್ಯ ಹೇಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ?-

"ಯಥಾ ಹ್ಯನುದಕಾ ನದ್ಯೋ

ಯಥಾ ವಾಪ್ಯತೃಣಂ ವನಮ್|

ಅಗೋಪಾಲಾ ಯಥಾ ಗಾವ:

ತಥಾ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಮರಾಜಕಮ್||

ರಾಜನಿಲ್ಲದ ರಾಜ್ಯವು- ನೀರಿಲ್ಲದ ನದಿಗಳಂತೆ,ಹುಲ್ಲಿಲ್ಲದ ಹುಲ್ಲುಗಾವಲಿನಂತೆ,ಗೋಪಾಲನಿಲ್ಲದ ಗೋಕುಲದಂತೆ ಅಸ್ತವ್ಯಸ್ತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ- ಎಂಬ ಮಾತು ಗಮನಾರ್ಹವಾದುದು.

"When you do the things which should not be done then the things happen which should not happen " - These words are applicable for both Dhasharatha and Kaikeyee. 

Dhasharatha became distressed and feeble mentally and physically by recalling the haunting incident of Shravana and the words of his old father. The last moments of Dhasharatha's life! He took his last breath by whispering the name of his son Rama and rebuking Kaikeyee. Nobody in the palace was aware of his death as it was midnight when Dhasharatha left the world. The tidings of the king's demise got about or came into light in the morning, when his servants came to wake the king up by singing Suprabhatham. Dhasharatha ended his life being an orphan though he had 3 queens ,more than 300 wives and 4 sons.

The entire Ayodhya was ruled by grief and people drowned in the flood of tears.

The corpse of Dhasharatha was kept in the cauldron of oil since it should not decay until his sons arrived there.

The two sons were in exile in the forest. 

The other two ,Bharatha- Shatrugna were with their maternal uncle.

As per the suggestion of Vasishta Maharshi, the five messengers of the king were sent to the king's( Bharatha's Uncle)palace to bring Bharatha and Shatrugna back to Ayodhya. 

The saint Maarkandeya defined the kingdom without the king, would be:

"Yathha hyanudakaa nadyoo

  Yathha vapyathrunam vanam|

  agoopaalaa yathha yavaga

  thathha rashtramaraajakam"||

Which means, 

The kingdom without the king would be at sixes and sevens( disorder)as - the rivers without water, a pasture without grass and a cattle drover without cattle. These words of Maarkandeya are truly remarkable.
