ರಾಮಾಯಣ ಹಕ್ಕಿನೋಟ-೪೩

ದಶರಥನು ಕೌಸಲ್ಯೆಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತನಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲದೆ ನಡೆದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ದಾರುಣವಾದ "ಶ್ರವಣ ಕುಮಾರ"ನ ವಧಾ ಪ್ರಸಂಗವನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದನು-

ಬಿಲ್ವಿದ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಣತನಾಗಿದ್ದ ನಾನು ಹುಡುಗುತನದಲ್ಲೇ ಶಬ್ದವೇಧಿ ಬಾಣಪ್ರಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಕಲಿತಿದ್ದೆನು.ವರ್ಷಾಕಾಲದ ಒಂದು ದಿನ  ಸರಯೂ ನದಿಯ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಟೆಯಾಡಲು ಹೋದವನಿಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಹೊತ್ತಿನ ತನಕ ಯಾವ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಯೂ ಸಿಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.ಮುಸ್ಸಂಜೆಯ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ನದಿಯ ಕಡೆಯಿಂದ ನೀರು ಕುಡಿಯುವ ಶಬ್ದ ಕೇಳಿಸಿತು.ಆನೆಯಿರಬಹುದೆಂದೆಣಿಸಿ ಶಬ್ದವೇಧಿ ಬಾಣಪ್ರಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದೆನು.ಬಾಣ ಗುರಿ ತಗುಲಿದಾಗ ಕೇಳಿದ್ದು ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಆರ್ತನಾದ!

ಹೋಗಿ ನೋಡಲು ನನ್ನದೇ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ಹುಡುಗನೊಬ್ಬನ ದೇಹದ ಮರ್ಮಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾಣತಗುಲಿ ಮರಣಕಾಲದ ನೋವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ರಕ್ತದ ಮಡುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಲವಿಲನೆ ಒದ್ದಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು.ಅವನು ಶ್ರವಣ ಕುಮಾರ. ತನ್ನ ಬಳಲಿದ ವೃದ್ಧ-ಕುರುಡ-ಅಬಲ ತಂದೆತಾಯಿಯರಿಗೆ ಕುಡಿಯಲು ನೀರಿಗಾಗಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದನು.ಕೊಡವನ್ನು ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿ ಸುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ಬಂದ ಶಬ್ದವನ್ನು ನಾನು ತಪ್ಪಾಗಿ ಗ್ರಹಿಸಿ ಬಾಣಪ್ರಯೋಗ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೆನು.ತಂದೆಯಿರುವ ತಾವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ ಅವನು ತಾನು ಮಾಡಿದ ತಂದೆತಾಯಿಗಳ ಸೇವೆಯ ಪುಣ್ಯದ ಫಲವಾಗಿ ಸ್ವರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಸೇರಿದನು.

ಅವನ ಹೆತ್ತವರಿಗೆ ನಾನೇ ವಿಷಯ ತಿಳಿಸಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಮಗನ ಶವದ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗಿ ನನ್ನಿಂದ ಗೊತ್ತಾಗದೇ ಆದ ಈ ಮಹಾ ಪ್ರಮಾದವನ್ನು ಕ್ಷಮಿಸಿ ಎಂದು ಕಾಲಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿದೆನು.

ಮಗನಿಗೆ ತರ್ಪಣವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ ಬಳಿಕ ಮಗನ ಸಾವಿನ ನೋವನ್ನು ತಡೆಯಲಾರದೆ ಅವನ ತಂದೆಯು-

ಪುತ್ರನ ವಿಯೋಗದಿಂದಾಗಿ ನಾನೀಗ ಎಂತಹ ದುಃಖವನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವೆನೋ-ಅದೇರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೀನೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಕಡೆಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನಂತೆಯೇ ಪುತ್ರ ವಿಯೋಗದ ದುಃಖವನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸಿ ಅದರಿಂದಲೇ ಪ್ರಾಣ ತೊರೆಯುವೆ"ಎಂದು  ತಡೆಯಲಾರದ ಶೋಕದ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದನು.ಅದೇ ಇಂದು ನನಗೆ ಶಾಪವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಣಮಿಸಿದೆ" ಎಂದು ದಶರಥನು ಕೌಸಲ್ಯೆಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದನು.

Dhasharatha started narrating the story of the death of Shravana Kumara to Kausalya. It was the cruelest incident that ever happened in the life of Dhasharatha without his knowledge. 

Dhasharatha was well-versed in archery .He had learnt the technique of Shabdhavedhi ( unleashing the arrow hearing the direction of the sound),when he was young. During the rainy season Dhasharatha had gone for hunting near the river Sarayu. He did not get any animal to hunt for a long time. But after sometimes he heard the sound of an animal drinking water from the direction of the river. He assumed that it had to be an elephant and unleashed the arrow through his skill of 'Shabdhavedhi '. But when the arrow reached its target, he heard the distress cry of a man! He rushed towards the river to see who the man was. Dhasharatha saw a man of his own age who was severely hit by his arrow and blood was sprouting from the wound. The man was groaning from an unbearable pain who was at the door of death. The man was none other than Shravana Kumara. He had come there to fetch water for his old ,blind and helpless parents who were thirsty.  The sound of dipping the pot into water was misinterpreted by Dhasharatha and released his arrow which took Shravana's breath away. Shravana had served his parents with unconditional love,affection and care. As a result of his honest duty he reached the heaven after his death. 

Dhasharatha went to see the old parents of Shravana who were waiting for their son . He explained them everything that had happened accidentally by taking them to the place where Shravana was lying dead. Dhasharatha fell to their feet and begged them to forgive him for the unknowing folly.

After completing the libation of their son Shravana, his father could not endure the pain of his son's demise and out of grief he cited that Dhasharatha would go through the same circumstance that the old and blind father was in. Further he stated that Dhasharatha would suffer an eternal pain of being departed from his son in his old age and would die of grief.

Dhasharatha remembered these words and told Kausalya that the painful words of the old and blind father of Shravana had become curse for him.
