ರಾಮಾಯಣ ಹಕ್ಕಿನೋಟ-೧೮

ರಾಮ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರು ಮಿಥಿಲಾ ನಗರಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ನಗರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಮೀಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ದಿವ್ಯಾಶ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಕಂಡರು.ಅಚ್ಚರಿಗೊಂಡ ರಾಮನು ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರಲ್ಲಿ- ಈ ದಿವ್ಯಾಶ್ರಮ ಯಾರದು? ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮುನಿಗಳಿಲ್ಲದಿರಲು ಕಾರಣವೇನು? ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಿವರವಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದಾಗ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರು ಅವೇ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪುನರಾವರ್ತಿಸಿ ವಿವರವಾಗಿ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಿದರು.

ಈ ಅನುಪಮವಾದ ಆಶ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂದೆ ಮಹರ್ಷಿ ಗೌತಮರು ಪತ್ನಿ ಅಹಲ್ಯೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ತಪಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಗೌತಮರಿಲ್ಲದ ವೇಳೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದ್ರನು ಗೌತಮರ ವೇಷ ಧರಿಸಿ ಬಂದು ಅಹಲ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಮಸುಖ ಬಯಸಿದಾಗ ಇಂದ್ರನೆಂದು ಗೊತ್ತಿದ್ದೂ ಅಹಲ್ಯೆ  ಸಮ್ಮತಿಸಿದಳು.ತನ್ನ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಪೂರೈಸಿ ಗೌತಮನಿಗೆ ಹೆದರುತ್ತಲೇ ಆಶ್ರಮದ ಪರಿಸರದಿಂದ ನಕಲಿ ಗೌತಮ ವೇಷಧಾರಿಯಾದ ಇಂದ್ರನು ಹೊರಬರುವುದೂ ಅಸಲಿ ತೇಜಸ್ವಿ ಶಿವ ಸದೃಶರಾದ ಗೌತಮರು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುವುದೂ ಸರೀ ಹೋಯಿತು.ವಿಷಯ ತಿಳಿದ ಗೌತಮರು ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡು ಇಂದ್ರನಿಗೆ-ನೀನೀಗಲೇ ಫಲ(ವೃಷಣ)ರಹಿತನಾಗು ಎಂದು ಶಾಪವಿತ್ತರು.ತತ್ಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಶಾಪ ಫಲ ನೀಡಿ ಇಂದ್ರನು ಫಲರಹಿತ(ಪುರುಷತ್ವ ಹೀನತೆ)ನಾದನು.ಇತ್ತ ಅಹಲ್ಯೆಗೆ- ದುರ್ವೃತ್ತಳೇ ನೀನು ಸಾವಿರ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಈ ಉಪವನದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನೇ ಆಹಾರವನ್ನಾಗಿ ಸೇವಿಸುತ್ತಾ ನಿರಾಹಾರಳಾಗಿ, ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ತಾಪದಿಂದ ತಪಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಭಸ್ಮರಾಶಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗುತ್ತಾ ಯಾರ ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೂ ಬೀಳದೆ ಅದೃಶ್ಯಳಾಗಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸು.ಯಾವಾಗ ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನು ಬರುವನೋ ಅಂದು ನೀನು ಶಾಪಮುಕ್ತಳಾಗಿ ಪೂತಾತ್ಮಳಾಗುವೆ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಸೇರುವೆ- ಎಂದು ಶಪಿಸಿ ಹಿಮಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ತಪಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ತೆರಳಿದರು.

ಇತ್ತ ಇಂದ್ರನು ಹೆದರಿ ದೇವತೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಫಲಸಹಿತನಾಗಲು ಕೋರಿಕೊಂಡಾಗ ಅವರು ಪಿತೃ ದೇವತೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿದರು.ಪಿತೃದೇವತೆಗಳು ಟಗರಿನ ವೃಷಣಗಳನ್ನು ಇಂದ್ರನಿಗೆ ಸಂಯೋಜಿಸಿದರು.

ರಾಮ,ಈಗ ನೀನು ಈ ಆಶ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿ ಅಹಲ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಪುನೀತಳನ್ನಾಗಿಸು ಎಂದು ಅವರನ್ನು ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಆಶ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿದರು.ರಾಮನು ಆಶ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾಲಿಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಅನುಪಮ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯವತಿ ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯವತಿ ತಪಸ್ಸಿನಿಂದ ದಿವ್ಯತೇಜಸ್ಸುಳ್ಳವಳಾದ ಅಹಲ್ಯೆಯು ಗೋಚರಿಸಿದಳು.ಸಹಜವಾಗಿಯೇ ರಾಮ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣರು ಅಹಲ್ಯಾದೇವಿಯ ಪಾದಮುಟ್ಟಿ ನಮಸ್ಕರಿಸಿದರು.ಅಹಲ್ಯೆ ಅವರನ್ನು ಆಶ್ರಮ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುಸಾರವಾಗಿ ಸತ್ಕರಿಸಿದಳು.ದೇವತೆಗಳು ಹೂಮಳೆಗರೆದರು.ತಮ್ಮ ದಿವ್ಯ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ರಾಮಾಗಮನವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದ ಗೌತಮರು  ಬಂದು ಅಹಲ್ಯೆಯಡಗೂಡಿ ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನನ್ನು ಸತ್ಕರಿಸಿದರು.ಬಳಿಕ ತಪಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರತರಾದರು.

ರಾಮಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣರು ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಿಥಿಲೆಗೆ ತೆರಳಿದರು.

ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ನಾವು ಕೇಳಿದ ಕತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗೌತಮರು ಅಹಲ್ಯೆಗೆ ನೀನು ಕಲ್ಲಾಗಿರು,ರಾಮಪಾದ ಸ್ಪರ್ಶವಾದಾಗ ಶಾಪವಿಮೋಚನೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದಿದೆ. ವಾಲ್ಮೀಕಿ ರಾಮಾಯಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೀಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.ಈ ಕತೆಯೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸಹಜವಾಗಿದೆ ಅಲ್ಲವೇ? 

ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ತಾಪಕ್ಕಿಂತ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತ ಯಾವುದು?

The journey of Rama - Lakshmana and Vishwamitra towards Mithile continued. They saw a hermitage (Dhivyaashrama) on the way ,which surprised Rama. He asked Vishwamitra curiously, who had the hermitage belonged to and why the sages were not residing in the hermitage. He expressed his wish to know everything in detail. For which Vishwamitra answered him by narrating the story of Gauthama Maharshi and Ahalya. The couple Gauthama and Ahalya used to live in the Dhivyaashrama where both of them used to perform  penance . One day ,Indra came to the hermitage in the absence of Gauthama Maharshi by disguising himself as Gauthama Maharshi with a wicked intention of seducing Ahalya.

Though Ahalya could make out that it was Indra not Gauthama ,indulged herself in the adultry with her own consent. After fulfilling his lust, Indra who was still in the disguise came out of the hermitage with a fear of being noticed by Gauthama Maharshi. But at the same time Gauthama Maharshi who was as bright as the Lord Shiva entered the hermitage . He realized everything the moment he saw Indra. The anger of Gauthama was beyond the control. He became outrageous and cursed Indra to be an impotent throughout the life (infertile)and to lose his masculinity. Immediately Indra became an impotent. 

Then his scornful eyes fell on his wife Ahalya who was also part of the adultry. He cursed her to live in the hermitage by consuming wind, lying on the heaps of ashes and repenting for her folly without being perceptible to anyone( invisible) for thousands of years. At the end he told her that she would be purified and redeemed from the curse only when ShriRama would visit the hermitage. By saying this Gauthama left for the Himalayas to perform penance. 

What could be the situation of Indra after being cursed? Of course one has to face the consequence of his or her action and Indra was not exception to this.

On the other hand ,Indra was completely devastated by the curse of Gauthama. The 

fearful Indra requested the gods to get his masculinity back. The gods went to seek the help of ' Pitru Devathaas '. Pleased by the prayers of Gods, Pithru devathaas granted him his masculinity with the testicles of the male sheep. 

Vishwamitra told Rama that it was the time to liberate Ahalya from her curse. So Vishwamitra directed Rama towards the hermitage. The moment Rama entered the hermitage, Ahalya was redeemed from her curse and was perceptible to the eyes, who was beautiful and glowing brightly. Rama and Lakshmana fell to her feet to seek her blessings. Ahalya treated them with all the respect and offered them hospitality according to the traditions of the hermitage. The Gods showered flowers upon them. Gauthama Maharshi who came to know about the arrival of ShriRama through his vision, returned to the hermitage and rejoined his wife Ahalya. Gauthama along with Ahalya offered hospitality to ShriRama again .Later Gauthama Maharshi engrossed himself in the penance. 

Vishwamitra, Rama and Lakshmana continued their journey towards Mithile. 

The story ,we have been hearing about Gauthama Maharshi and Ahalya is quite different. It has been  told that Gauthama Maharshi had cursed Ahalya to live in the form of a stone and she would be redeemed by the touch of the foot of divine ShriRama. But the story written by Valmiki is different and sounds more natural.
